Slovakia: E-invoicing infrastructure is live

Use the active rollout to move customers from awareness to implementation.
Slovakia is moving towards its 1 January 2027 e-invoicing mandate with operational infrastructure already in place.
From January 2027, VAT-registered businesses in Slovakia will need to issue, send and receive structured e-invoices for specified domestic transactions.
Slovakia is using a Peppol-based decentralised model. Businesses connect through certified service providers, also referred to locally as digital postmen.
This is a reason to contact customers with Slovak entities and check whether they are already moving from preparation to implementation.
The infrastructure is operational, providers are being selected and some businesses are already exchanging real e-invoices. Customers that wait until January may face avoidable issues around provider selection, ERP data, Peppol requirements and exception handling.
Start with these customer questions:
– Which Slovak entities and domestic transactions are in scope?
– Has the customer selected a certified service provider?
– Can the ERP create the required structured invoice data?
– Are Peppol requirements handled correctly?
– Are VAT category codes and exemption reason codes mapped correctly?
– Who manages rejected invoices, missing data or reporting issues?
Slovakia’s technical guidance is becoming more detailed, including clarification around Peppol VAT Category Codes and VAT Exemption Reason Codes. These fields need to be handled consistently across ERP systems, billing processes and provider connections.
Customers should confirm exact scope, data requirements and provider obligations with their local finance or tax team.
“Slovakia’s e-invoicing infrastructure is already live, and the mandate starts on 1 January 2027. Shall we check whether your Slovak invoice flow is ready, from provider selection and ERP data to Peppol exchange, VAT codes and exception handling?”
Contact customers with Slovak entities and arrange a short readiness review with finance, tax and IT. Focus on provider strategy, ERP data, Peppol-based exchange, VAT code mapping, reporting flows and how rejected invoices or missing data will be resolved.
