Germany: 2027 issuing readiness is approaching
Use the next mandate phase to move customers from receiving readiness to issuing readiness.
Use the next mandate phase to move customers from receiving readiness to issuing readiness.
Germany’s B2B e-invoicing mandate is moving into its next phase.
Since 1 January 2025, businesses in scope have had to be able to receive structured electronic invoices. From 1 January 2027, many businesses will also need to issue structured e-invoices for domestic B2B transactions.
This means customers need to move beyond basic receiving readiness and prepare their outgoing invoice flows.
This is a reason to contact customers with German entities and check whether they are ready to issue compliant structured invoices before 2027.
Customers that still rely on PDF invoices, email-based exchange, manual validation or fragmented ERP processes may face avoidable issues once issuing obligations apply.
Start with these customer questions:
– Which German entities and domestic B2B flows are in scope?
– Can the ERP create EN 16931-compliant invoice data?
– Are XRechnung, ZUGFeRD, Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 or relevant EDI flows supported?
– Can invoice data be validated before sending?
– How are incoming and outgoing e-invoices archived?
– Who manages rejected invoices, format errors or missing data?
Germany does not mandate one single transmission channel. Businesses may use email, Peppol, EDI, direct system exchange or another agreed electronic method, as long as the invoice meets the required structured data standard.
That flexibility can create complexity. Customers should not only ask which format or channel they support, but whether invoice data can move through the full process in a controlled, validated and auditable way.
“Germany’s next e-invoicing phase starts in 2027. Shall we check whether your German invoice flow is ready to issue structured invoices, from ERP data and formats to validation, routing and exception handling?”
Contact customers with German operations and propose a short issuing-readiness review. Focus on ERP capability, XRechnung, ZUGFeRD, Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, validation, archiving, process ownership and how Germany fits into the customer’s wider European mandate roadmap.
